I Opened My Eyes

Last night I heard my door-bell ring
And from the kitchen, I heard you sing,
You laughed your laugh, so sweet and long,
But I opened my eyes and the dream had gone.

Last night, I saw your yellow dress
And the field of lilies, where we lay,
The summer sun was a shimmering orb,
But I opened my eyes to a winter's day.

Last night, once again, I found my feet
Wandering, along Cleghorn Street,
Walked through the door of our run-down flat
Saw Floyd stickers on the fireplace
And a tortoishell cat,
As you lay on the bed, you beckoned me on
But I opened my eyes and the dream had gone.

Last night, we decided to go for a jar
And off we went, to The Campbelltown Bar,
Stan Lumb laughed and said, let's have a song
But I opened my eyes and the dream had gone.

Memories of love and lust and lace
Bring now a smile, to an old man's face,
So speed the day, hasten the night
That I may be lost, in enchanted flight,
May I live, forever, in those days we knew,
Now I close my eyes and we shall be two.

For Linda, Jason and Jude.
