John Lennon and Scott Martin

Step Row Nights

In Willie Frew's, we got the news,
Lennon's been shot dead.
So we set out with a carry-out
And the songs which filled our heads.

Sang 'Twist and Shout',sat up all night,
Me and Chris and Bill,
'Norwegian Wood', we knew we could
Sound just like John and Paul.

In those Step Row nights, we found delights
In beer, guitars and smokes,
The Annabelle said, 'he isn't dead'
Through her seven scotch and cokes.

We sang again, that same night
On stage, in the 'service club,
Pete Sillars joked, in his claw-hammer coat
As we sang our songs of love.

Now Pete's gone too,
It's only you and me, and Bill
Though, in our thoughts, he'll always be
Singing, with us still.

Those Step Row nights, we Misbehaved
Now seem so long ago.
Was it a dream, it must have been,
I guess we'll never know.
